Valerie Bernhardt has performed a wide variety of roles in her career. The 2010-11 season included a return to Bohème Opera New Jersey to perform the title role in TOSCA, and a reprise of her performance in the title role of TURANDOT with New Jersey’s Coro Lirico. Also during the 2010-11 season, Ms. Bernhardt returned to Carnegie Hall to perform the MOZART REQUIEM with the Saint Cecilia Chorus and Orchestra in a memorial tribute to the late David Randolph. During the 2009-10 season, she appeared on the roster of the Metropolitan Opera as a cover artist in Janácek’s FROM THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD, and sang the title role in AIDA with Coro Lirico. During the 2008-09 season, she performed Brünnhilde in Wagner’s SIEGFRIED with New Jersey Concert Opera, both Abigaille in NABUCCO and the title role in TURANDOT with Coro Lirico, and the title role in TOSCA with Opera at Florham. Ms. Bernhardt also made her German operatic debut in July of 2009 as Abigaille in NABUCCO with Theater Pforzheim.

Ms. Bernhardt made her Carnegie Hall debut with Eve Queler’s Opera Orchestra of New York in Donizetti’s ADELIA, as well as her New York City Opera debut in Janácek’s THE CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN. She has performed such roles as Mimi in LA BOHÈME with both Pittsburgh Opera and Bohème Opera New Jersey; Valentine in Meyerbeer’s LES HUGUENOTS with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México; Hélène in Verdi’s JERUSALEM with Opera Orchestra of New York; and First Lady in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE with New York City Opera and Pittsburgh Opera. Ms. Bernhardt has covered Desdemona in Verdi’s OTELLO and the title role in ANNA BOLENA with Opera Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall. Additional appearances at Carnegie Hall with the Saint Cecilia Chorus and Orchestra included the VERDI REQUIEM, Vaughan Williams’s A SEA SYMPHONY, Beethoven’s NINTH SYMPHONY, Vaughan Williams’s DONA NOBIS PACEM, the MOZART REQUIEM, and C.P.E. Bach’s MAGNIFICAT. Ms. Bernhardt appeared with the Oratorio Society of New Jersey in Mozart’s MISSA IN C (CREDO MASS), Haydn’s MISSA BREVIS ST. JOANNIS DE DEO (KLEINE ORGELMESSE), and Pergolesi’s MAGNIFICAT. She also performed the VERDI REQUIEM with Coro Lirico, conducted by Jason Tramm.

A native of New Jersey, Ms. Bernhardt has earned two graduate degrees in voice from the Juilliard School, and has trained with the opera programs of Chautauqua, Aspen, the Pittsburgh Opera Center, and the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program. She is a recent participant in the Wagner Emerging Singers Program founded by Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart under the auspices of the Wagner Society of Washington D.C. Valerie Bernhardt has distinguished herself in various competitions, most recently the 2007 Liederkranz Foundation Competition, as well as the Palm Beach Vocal Competition, and the Opera at Florham Vocal Competition. She has won career grants from the Wagner Society of Washington D.C., the Wagner Society of New York, Opera Index, and the Sullivan Foundation. Ms. Bernhardt also teaches on the voice faculty of Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
